Brian Nelson
Co-Founder and Partner
Brian is a father first, and considers his time with his 2 grown children the best and most important facet of his life. A close second, Brian's love of all things outdoors, including hiking, motorcycles and sailing, keep him perpetually on the move.
The pathway to his future career began with painting apartments and houses through high school and college, leading to managing, maintaining, brokering, and owning multifamily properties in the decades since. All told, Brian has been in the apartment industry his entire adult life.
Fast forward more than 38 years and he is now a principal of Avalon Commercial. Brian is continually working on behalf of the organization's clients, both sourcing property acquisitions on behalf of buyers, and marketing and negotiating dispositions to maximize proceeds on behalf of sellers.
Additionally, Brian has served as a court-appointed receiver in more than 50 commercial property cases involving office, retail, industrial and apartments.

John Shaffer
Co-Founder and Partner
John's greatest passions are his family, 2 rescue dogs, and refereeing football, not necessarily in that order.
During John's more than 37-year real estate career he has facilitated the closing of more than $2.0 Billion of primarily institutional apartment properties located throughout the United States.
A highlight of his sales activity was the negotiation and simultaneous closing of three separate transactions, consisting of four multifamily properties with a total consideration of $167.1 million.
Additionally John's experience in quantitative analysis was foundational to the success of a team he developed and managed, successful in the preparation of investment materials that led to the closing of more than $2.2 Billion in new multifamily construction.
Now, as a principal in Avalon Commercial, his extensive background in quantitative analysis and real estate finance affords him the requisite skill set to assist the organizations clientele in achieving both their short and long term investment goals.
